Marta is an Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage Therapist and the managing director of the Equilibrium Therapy Clinic Brighton, on the sunny South Coast. This is her story:
People always get excited when I say I’m a massage therapist, but it’s when I explain I work with people with chronic and acute pain conditions that they open their eyes a little bit wider and really want to know more.
This is how I got there.
I studied Physiotherapy in Poland for 2 years while working in a laboratory as a chemical technician. At 25, I decided to emigrate to the UK, leaving behind my physio training.
I started studying Holistic Therapy, including reflexology, aromatherapy and Swedish massage. I finished with an award for Student of The Year, 2011 – you can imagine how thrilled I was!
I then worked in one of the Brighton salons and quickly realised that I wanted more from massage than making someone feel nice. Having lived through tough times myself, I wanted to help people overcome pain and discomfort – even when they had lost hope.
I began a 3-year diploma course in Advanced Clinical and Sports Massage Therapy (BTEC Level 6).
This was when my practice totally transformed. Having soaked in all this new knowledge, I was excited to use it in my treatments straight away – with amazing results. From that time on, I have never felt like I was working! I love what I do and I am very much dedicated to making people feel their best!
I now have a clinic, and found a lovely husband, Philip, and a fluffy dog, Herbert, along the way.
